I added this page for my mother-in-law, Shirley Bentgen, who grew up in a culture & family of sailors. As
well as having been in the Waves, she was an avid sailor from a very young age. A couple of years before
her passing Shirley asked me to learn a poem that she had been fond of for many years. She hoped that I
might read it for her memorial, whenever that might occur. In discussing this she told me that she had
found that the poem had been put to music and she wondered if I might track down the music and learn
that as well.
As a result of this request, I did find the poem & music on the internet. As it often happens with me, I
found a number of arrangements, none of which really suited my tastes. So I put together this
arrangement and recorded it for Shirley, but I liked it so much I thought it would be nice to share it here
on my site.
The poem is titled "Crossing the Bar" by Lord Alfred Tennyson, I hope you enjoy it!
